What is an Open Air Preacher? They are people who want to walk in the footsteps of Jesus. They are as bold as a lion, and yet as gentle as a dove. They know the best way to reach people who aren’t in the church isn’t to bring them to the church, but to bring the church to them. They’re literally taking the gospel out into the world and reaching people that would never come to church. Many people consider preaching in parks, fairs, festivals, and other public venues, an ineffective way to share the gospel, while some even find it offensive. Yes, a poorly trained preacher can do more damage than good, if they have more zeal than wisdom. However, we have seen on several occasions where an effective “
Open Air” preacher can reach more people with the gospel in a few hours than some churches reach in an entire year. Why? Because they are willing to leave the 99 and go out to find the one lost sheep (see
Luke 15:4).
Open air preaching isn’t for everyone. It’s just those people who want to do what Jesus did. Jesus preached in public all the time. He didn’t have radio, TV, The Internet, Newspapers, etc. So He preached in the Temple, on the Mount. of Olives, and many other “public” places. It doesn’t matter how old you are or who you are, what matters is how much you’re willing to do to reach the lost souls who are sinking into Hell.
